Reduce cost and increase control by simplifying build complexity with
OpenMake Meister

Meister reduces cost and increases control by simplifying build complexity. Build complexity occurs through uncontrolled scripting, the need for multi-language compiles or agile methods where frequent changes to the build are encouraged.  Meister virtualizes builds allowing you to control the mixing and mashing of more build engines, such as MSBuild and Ant, or between the individual build and the team build, resulting in consistent rock solid builds. Simply putting workflow on top of the chaos of scripts does not solve build problems. In order to solve build problems, Meister addresses the entire build challenge by starting at the creation of binaries and continuing through configuration packaging and deployment.

Key Benefits:

  • Delivers build mashups allowing you to control and synchronize builds between:
    • The individual developer's IDE build with the continuous integration team build
    • Different versions of the Microsoft development environments
    • Visual Studio and Java
    • Multiple Microsoft solution files
  • Enforces build best practices to deliver rock solid, on time builds.
  • Improves build speeds using Build Avoidance
  • Supports full build to release workflow management
  • Simple to install with immediate results – no script conversion needed.

Build Services and Mashups

Meister Build Services is the secret to how Meister performs it's build mashups.  Build Services allows developers to define build best practices and execute the build best practice across multiple languages and platforms.  It is the perfect solution for developers working in lean environments where the build must quickly adapt to source code changes and support multiple compilers and IDEs.

Continuous Integration and Refactoring Support

Meister provides Continuous Integration (CI) Build features that are not offered by other build solutions. Meister includes a continuous integration build server as well as the ability to synchronize the developer's Integrated Development Environment (IDE) build immediately with the central CI build running outside of the IDE. This synchronization prevents the team build from breaking due to source code changes impacting the static build scripts.  Tasks that normally require re-visiting multiple scripts, such as code and package re-factoring, are simplified as the details of these changes are automatically updated from the individual IDE to the centralized continuous integration build.

Iterative Builds for Agile Practices

Meister manages at the build engine level, understanding how to assemble your application, knowing precisely what objects need to be rebuilt based on a single source code change.  Build Avoidance is the fastest way to perform builds.  Yes, 10 minute builds or less are possible with Meister.

Build Forensics:  Meister's Dependency Discovery

Meister's advanced dependency discovery exposes every item used to create your binaries, even when the item is not stored in a source code management (SCM) tool.  True dependency reporting cannot rely on a SCM tool because many components of the build are managed outside of SCM control.  Meister inspects the binaries as they are being built providing the critical “trace evidence” to track a binary back to its exact origins. In addition, this dependency information can be imported into your CMDB to cross reference the production environment's configurations to the application's configuration determining the readiness of a release before it gets to your production environment.

Build Best Practices Through Customizable Build Templates

Hundreds of standard Build Methods come ready to use as part of the Meister community developed Knowledge base or can be customized using Meister's reusable modules that perform common tasks such as generating a build.xml file.

Meister's Build to Deployment Workflow
Meister's build to deployment workflow centralizes end-to-end process automation, creating a self-service workflow environment for the execution of builds, testing and release processes. Coordinating build to deployment efforts can be a complex process involving the cooperation of many teams and departments. Meister's workflow, with User Group security, simplifies the hand-off process.
Report access using a Report Portal

Meister 7.1 provides easier access to reports through a Reports Portal.  So if your not a developer and need to get to those critical build logs, build audits and build metrics reports, Meister 7.1 provides you a report portal for viewing build results on demand – just view them through the Meister 7.1 report portal URL.   View the Report
