Setup for the Meister add-in to .NET 2005 5 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0&nbsp&nbsp
SUBJECT: Setup for the Meister add-in to .NET 2005
I'm trying to test the Meister add-in for .NET 2005, but have not had any luck.

Visual Studio .NET 2005 was already previously loaded on my machine and OpenMake had originally been loaded under openmake6 in the Program Files directory.

I uninstalled the original OpenMake and loaded Meister from the zip to c:\Program Files\openmake. Then I ran Meister to complete the setup. Meister is currently operating without problem.

Then I turned to testing the .NET 2005 add-in. When I launch .NET 2005 for a project that now builds under Meister, I select Build from the menu bar, but I see OpenMake, not Meister as the User’s Guide states.

Then, I click on OpenMake and a new selection box pops up with the following choices:
  • Configure OpenMake

  • Create TGTs

  • Build solution with OpenMake

  • Build project with OpenMake

  • Launch OpenMake Meister

Clicking on any of these choices produces no activity. The menu drop-downs go away and nothing happens.

In the Add-in Manager under Tools, both the Startup and Command Line check boxes have been checked to activate the OpenMake Add-in.

I haven't found anything in any logs to provide any clues about what's happening and not happening. Nothing ever displays in the output log, so I'm at a loss.

Where do I start looking?

Thanks.

Hello

There are two things to check

1. Check that the dll Interop.SHDocVw.dll is in the same directory as the OpenmakeAddin.dll. Some versions of the installer had a bug (now fixed) that did not install that file

2. Look for the log file %APPDATA%openmakevsaddin.log (%APPDATA% is an environment variable). You should be able to type %APPDATA%openmake into the Windows Explorer Address bar to get there.

Thanks, Jim

The results of checking these two things:

1. I found both Interop.SHDocVw.dll and OpenmakeAddin.dll in the client\bin subdirectory under the OpenMake installation directory. Interop.SHDocVw.dll is at version 1.1.0.0 and OpenmakeAddin.dll is at version 1.0.2855.24380.

2. I found the log file vs2005_addin.log located under %APPDATA%\openmake. The only info it yielded were 11 lines that contained basically the same data except for different time stamps:
  • 2008-01-17 08:22:14,764 [1] DEBUG OpenmakeAddin3.Connect - OnDisconnection: start

Upon investigating further to see where _link_age info is stored directing Studio to the OpenmakeAddin.dll, I reviewed the keys and values stored in the registry for the local machine. I found only one key for an AddIn for my 3rd party software configuration management tool - VCIAddIn.Connect - and it contained string and dword values under that key, but no key was found to _link_ Studio to the OpenmakeAddin.dll. A further search of the registry revealed no instances of OpenmakeAddin.dll at all.

Is there a step missing from the Install Guide? Under the topic Configuring the Meister Visual Studio 2005 Add-in, the text says "Following are the steps to install and configure the Visual Studio 2005 Add-in."   But nothing is given to elaborate the "install" process, only the "configure" process. Is there some installation process that got dropped from the Install Guide?

Thanks.

The addin is loaded by VS 2005 by placing the Openmake.Addin file in %ALLUSERSPROFILE%Application DataMicrosoftMSEnvSharedAddins (there are other locations as well; you can look them up in VS under Tools->Options : Environment->Addin/Macro Security )

The fact that you can enable the addin from the addin manager and you get the menus indicate that it is loading correctly, but failing during runtime. I will investigate on our support site to see if we have had a case like this before.

I just checked out the Openmake.Addin file and found it at %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\MSEnvShared\Addins.

On analyzing the Openmake.Addin file, I see that it has all the Addin data loaded in the file, but it's all identified under Visual Studio version 9.0.  The only Visual Studio loaded on my machine is version 8.0.  There is a Host Application tag identified for version 8.0, but there are no Addin details spelled out there; the Addin tags don't even exist.  Instead, there is only the following line after the end tag for version 8.0 and before the beginning tag for version 9.0:
  • !-- JAG 10.25.07 - case IUD-54 --

Hope this helps.

Thanks again!

Hi,

I think the paste of your Addin file got messed up by the board software. Can you try reposting it?
