Planning and Implementation Assistance

Planning and implementation assistance provides the foundation for a solid installation of Openmake. This consulting package involves one day of planning activities and 4 days of pilot rollout. During planning, build machines are identified, tool support and developer's work habits are discussed. The use of Openmake from both a centralized build use and an individual developer use is reviewed to determine the best method for using Openmake. Activities during these initial five days include:

  • Review the strategy to achieve new build management to release management procedures.
  • Identify and examine the existing application software inventory.
  • Identify a subset of binary modules to build during the pilot phase.
  • Review issues relating to the current build management process.
  • Install the Openmake Software on a central server.
  • Identify Openmake Build Services and use of Remote Build Machines.

The pilot rollout portion of the Planning and Implementation package involves building a subset of binaries identified during the planning phase. A selected pilot application is used to define the Build Methods, build rules and search paths for building a subset of the applications. This phase includes:

  • Install Openmake on defined client machines.
  • Test the Openmake installation on build machines and workstations.
  • Review the existing Build Type compile flags and update as needed.
  • Create Target files for binaries to be built.
  • Build the selected Targets.
  • Provide knowledge transfer to the Openmake Administrator.
